blowsionThe 2010 Blowsion Surf Slam kicked off in September at Pacific City in Oregon and Heather Selwitz Briglia was there to bring JS&PW readers the latest fix of big air and big waves.

Up at 3am, on the plane by 6, at VooDoo Doughnuts Too in Portland by 9. What a perfect start to the day. Homemade gourmet treats for meat lovers: Bacon Maple Bars and a huge variety of scrumptious delights for the vegans. Followed by errands and wine tasting through the Willamette Valley. It’s pretty hard to complain about a hard days work after eating fresh blackberries picked from the side of the road as we leave Maysara Winery and Momtazi Vineyard; which is a Demeter Certified Biodynamic winemaking facility. No, really it is. All of this, plus watching some alpaca frolicking in the lush green fields on our way to the 2010 Blowsion Surf Slam.

The Blowsion Surf Slam is the second stop on the IFWA Freeride World Tour. If you have not attended one of these events you’d better put the final event in Brazil on your calendar now. The experience is life changing. Your circle of friends expands from local to global and your foreign language capabilities will grow by leaps and bounds.

Take this event as an example. To get to the event you must drive through the Oregon countryside surround by vineyards, humungous hundred year old trees, cross over one lane bridges and eventually arrive in Pacific City, a beach community, nestled along the Oregon coast on the unpredictable Pacific Ocean. This is an easy place to host a freeride event. Riders pack into rented houses not far from the beach and small families form in the spirit of the event.
