LIVESAn off-duty deputy came to the rescue of two capsized sailors by borrowing his neighbour’s jet ski. Dennis Westfall and Wayne Stoeckert got the shock of their lives when a gust a wind picked up their 19-foot sailing boat and capsized it, leaving both sailors in the waters of Lake Ontario. Neither men were wearing life jackets. Deputy Frank Trinica of the Monroe County Sheriff’s department was visiting his parents house on the lake, when he heard about the incident. Waverunner Epic
Monday, 14 February 2011 11:31

Waverunner EpicTIn April 2010, six South African sports personalities set out an historic adventure travelling over 2,800 km of treacherous coastline in over three weeks on Yamaha FX HO WaveRunners, in support of cancer awareness and the Cancer Association of SA (CANSA).

The 1,511 nautical mile journey began at the border near Ponta De Oura in Mozambique then trailed down the East Coast of South Africa and around the Cape Peninsula to fi nally reach Alexander Bay and the Orange River mouth, the border where South Africa and Namibia meet.

The six man team were South African sports celebrities; cricketer Lance Klusener, surfer Jason Ribbink, world lifesaving champion Brandon Ribbink, surf ski paddler Barry Lewin and Russel Symcox, cricketer and son of world famous cricketer, Pat Symcox and fi nally marine conservationist and shark expert Mark Addison. Some of the expedition legs were 315km without rest and the team experienced a mix of conditions from calm to giant squall-like swells. The team underwent weeks of rigorous training. The team had various stop over points where they would meet and greet fans and rally the support of the local communities in the fi ght against Cancer through sms lines, fund raising activities and general awareness clinics. At the onset of this mammoth undertaking, critics were wary of the ability of the watercraft to make the long haul journey especially in such unpredictable conditions, but the Yamaha WaveRunners silenced all the doubters.
