Anya Colley seven times jet ski World Champion and the current IJSBA Expert Ski Limited and Amateur Open Ski World Champion has just received her new look jet ski with thanks to graphic sponsor Ski Pimp.
I chose the Union Jack theme for my jet ski as I compete all over the world – sometimes I am the only rider representing GB for example when I competed in Russia, UIM Ladies European Championship and the Kings Cup in Thailand I wasn’t just the only girl I was the only jet skier from GB. Often there is only a couple of riders representing GB like last year at the Night race in Morocco and the UIM in Corsica when there was just myself and James Bushell from GB, so I am proud to fly the Union Jack, proud to represent GB and I ride it for all the excellent jet ski riders that we have in GB that are unable to make the racing venues so far afield in this great sport. It was great at this year's World Finals in the USA knowing that I had helped team GB bring the nations trophy home to GB – how proud. But of course my new union jack jet ski had to have a little bit of my own twist to it – a touch of pink (in this male dominated sport) of course!
I am known as ‘the pink lady’. I like to promote Girl Power as much as I can and show the girls out there that we can have great fun on jet skis and achieve great results at the same time. I was the first girl to represent GB in juniors in Europe, I was the first girl to take the top girl junior award at the World Finals in Arizona in 2005, and I was the first girl to ever win the IJSBA Junior World Title, the Amateur Ski Open and the Expert Ski Limited World Titles to name but a few of my Girl Power achievements!
I am 18 years old and I have been riding a ski for leisure since I was five years old – I started out an old Kawasaki 550 but now ride a Hydrospace. I got into racing after being on holiday with my family in 2004 where I went to watch my first Jet Ski race and fell in love with racing. So after persuading my parents that racing was a good idea I entered my first race in 2005 aged 12 years and I loved it and haven’t looked back since. I have had some amazing times, met some great people and been fortunate enough to race in some wonderful places….all over the UK and Europe, Russia, Croatia, Morocco, USA and Thailand. So being proud to be British and flying the Girl Power banner equals the story behind the amazing ski pimp design on my ski.
Finally to add the very last touch my website address is all over my ski in the graphic print. I try through my site to promote the sport and the fun that we have and thank all my sponsors.
Another good point to my graphic wrap is that although Jet Ski racing is a non contact sport rubs, taps and accidents do unfortunately happen, as do black marks on my ski from the buoys but now Ski pimp is able to repair the scratches and rubs without having to replace the whole wrap which is a great advantage. As well as riding at various lakes throughout the UK and competing in the British Championships and full throttle weekends at Stanton Leisure Lakes I hope to compete in Belgium and France this summer and hopefully in the future be fortunate enough again to grace the waters of Lake Havasu City flying the flag, in pink of course!
Best weekend... On the sofa or the water? Water every time. Racing or freeriding? Racing UK or foreign waters? I love racing everywhere but I really enjoy racing in the sunshine which can be difficult in this country! My parents Malc and Michelle love exploring different places so whenever we race somewhere different it means I get to look around the place which is cool. I have been to some lovely places through racing. When we raced in Russia I got to go to Red Square, when I raced in Thailand we went to Bangkok too, when we raced in Havasu I got to see the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Party night or early night? I enjoy doing both. Eating out or eating in? As long as I get my food I don't mind!! Wine, beer or Pimms? J20 as I am teetotal. What's in your weekend bag? Everything I need for my weekend away - including a few snacks of course. What can't you live without? My family and my boyfriend James Bushell - oh and food of course. Sporting hero? Lewis Hamilton Most influential person in your life so far? My family all the way. My brother Joel is great, he has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and he has shown me how important it is to accept and understand "difference in people" and my mum and dad Michelle & Malcolm Colley who have dedicated so much of their lives to my racing and they have given me great values in life especially that "life is soooooooo precious but to be enjoyed".
