Well, it’s that time of year again. There was a frost last night and as I sit here writing, I can hear the rain bouncing off the roof, so that can only mean one thing . . . it’s the end of the season.

Now whilst some of you die hard nutters will don your dry suits and carry on riding (and all credit to you) there are those who are probably in a majority, who will be stoking up the wood burner, cranking the central heating up flat out and putting their PW in the garage.

But just shoving your ski in storage and forgetting about it until the spring can be one of the costliest mistakes you will ever make. You can do this work yourself to prevent this happening, or if you are unsure then take your ski to your local dealer as they will be happy to do it for you.

Project Superjet Final Rebuild

FINAL REBUILD

In the final instalment of the much-loved Project Superjet, Nick Dyer and Jez Crook fit the pump, driveshaft and engine and take the beast for a well deserved ride!

HULL FITTINGS AND FIXINGS

With all the main components re-assembled it is now time to put it all together. First off we start with the intermediate bearing assembly. This is bolted to the bulkhead with three bolts and it’s a good idea to put some silicone sealer on the back of the housing where it is in contact with bulkhead. This will create a good watertight seal.

Engine and jet pump rebuild

The crankshaft is back from Preben Jetski Engineering after having its rebuild with four new main bearings and two new connecting rod kits, the newly re-bored cylinder is back and the carburettors have had their overhaul, so we are ready for the engine and jet pump rebuild.

ENGINE

Bottom End

First of all it is very important to make sure that the crankcases are clean inside and out, especially if you have had some kind of engine failure, because if there is debris present when you start it up you will quite quickly destroy the engine. A good way of cleaning the crankcases is in a parts washer with a brush.

Reconditioning the crankshaftReconditioning the crankshaft

Welcome back to part five of Project Superjet, where Nick Dyer looks at what it takes to recondition a crankshaft and rebore a cylinder.

For specialist PW engineering I usually use Preben Jetski, so a couple of weeks ago I sent the crankshaft and the cylinder to them for some wise words of wisdom and to see what needed doing.

Rebuilding crankshafts is not something that the average person can do, as you need some fairly hefty equipment such as a big press that is capable of pressing nearly 30 tons.

Aftermarket PartsAdding aftermarket parts

Welcome back to Project Superjet, where we have now got our ski back from the sprayers and it’s looking pretty cool we think. But before we start work on the ski itself we’ve got to look at what aftermarket parts we need for the engine and pump unit.

CHOOSING THE PARTS

First off, we have decided that we want an aftermarket high performance head fitted to the ski to give it some serious performance gains. So we called Chris and Lisa at Air Time Products (ATP) to see what they had available.
